After 40 Years in the Staffing Business Mary Pattee Retires

Aloha,

After 40 years of working the best job anyone could ever dream of, it gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to announce my retirement from the staffing industry. When applying for a temporary job back in 1969, with the hopes of landing a permanent job, who would have ever guessed that a 21 year old single mom, would end up owning her own staffing business, in the beautiful state of Hawaii. Not only did I have the job of my dreams, but a paradise in which to work and live.

Most people who work their way up the corporate ladder, encounter all the regular challenges that we hear about over and over. However, what I will say, is that after working in the staffing arena for 20 years, I was more than ready to open my own business in 1991. I was confident that I had all the tools necessary to become successful, but most of all, I had the confidence in my intuition of knowing what worked best for me. I knew immediately when I arrived in Hawaii, that the business culture was extremely different from that in Orange County, California. Thankfully I had the business savvy to adjust, but kept the techniques that had always worked for me. The principles that I followed were Honesty, Sincerity, Listening, Consistency, and treating others the way you would want to be treated. Sounds so basic, but this approach brought me much success and joy in my business in Hawaii.

Although many of my long time contacts have also retired, the companies that I serviced for the last 20 years are still the same. I want to take this time to extend a "Warm Mahalo" to these companies and also to all of the wonderful staffing employees(both temporary and full time), for their dedication to Staffing Solutions of Hawaii. Without your support, the company would not be what it is today!

I want to thank my loving husband, Rodney Howard, for all of his support these last 20 years. He is the one that convinced me to move to Hawaii to start up my own business. Rodney has always been there to make sure all the financials were in order, along with ensuring our computers were updated with the latest technology. He is the one that kept our office full of humor, which was very welcome.

I also want to extend a special thank you to Suzanne Kiyabu, Accountant for Staffing Solutions of Hawaii, who has been with me from almost the beginning. Her dedication ensured that all of our employees were paid on time every week!

Lastly and most importantly, for those of you who do not already know, the company will now be owned and operated by my dear, wonderful daughter-in-law, Lisa Truong Kracher. Some of you have experienced the pleasure of working with Lisa these last couple of years. Her dedication cannot be surpassed. Turning the reins over to Lisa was an easy decision for me because I saw much of myself in her. I feel that I am leaving my clients and employees alike, with someone who has many of the same ideals as myself. She also brings new energy and fresh ideas, which will take the company to the next level.

Rodney and I will remain on the Board of Directors. After all, how could we completely disappear from a company we love so much!
